ALL VICTIMS OF CRIME deserve THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD
THE PETITION
We call on the UK Government to give all victims of crime a legal right to explore Restorative Justice.
Restorative Justice is a proven, powerful tool enabling victims of crime to enter a safe, facilitated dialogue with the person who harmed them.
It’s a chance to ask tough questions, to get answers and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
It’s an optional add-on to traditional punishments like prison, and it delivers life-changing results. 8 in 10 victims who take part are satisfied and say they would recommend the process to others.
Restorative Justice also reduces reoffending by a quarter and saves the taxpayer £14 for every £1 spent.
But despite an entitlement in the Victims Code, access to Restorative Justice is low: only 1 in 20 victims are told about the option. That’s why we need a legal right guaranteeing every victim the option to explore Restorative Justice.
